Lunar day 18: the mirror
Lunar day 18 is the day others show you to yourself: the gift is recognizing what is yours in another's reaction rather than arguing with the reflection.

The character of lunar day 18
A mirror shows what stands in front of it, without commentary. The eighteenth lunar day is traditionally read as a day of reflection in both senses: people and events act as mirrors, and what irritates or delights in others often points to something in oneself. The waning Moon is still bright, but the light is turning inward. The tradition treats the day as an opportunity for self-knowledge that comes from outside — the comment that stings, the behavior that seems familiar, the praise that lands where it was needed.
What the day favors
The day favors honest feedback, asked for and received calmly; journaling about what other people provoked; and noticing which reactions are about the present and which are older. It suits conversations with people who know you well and see you clearly. Recognizing what is yours in someone else's reaction is the gift of the mirror.
What can wait
What can wait is arguing with the reflection instead of facing yourself. Blaming others for what they reveal, taking every reaction as an attack, and polishing the image rather than looking at it are the shadow of the eighteenth day. Turning the mirror away does not change the face.
With other people
With other people, the eighteenth day turns every relationship into a mirror. What irritates in a partner, a colleague or a friend may be pointing at something familiar in oneself. It is a good day to ask for honest feedback, to receive it without defending, and to recognize the parts of a quarrel that are yours.
The question of the day
The day asks what irritated you most in someone else this week — and where you have seen it before.
When lunar day 18 falls
The dates in this table count lunar days (also called moon days) from the exact new moon, the same moment everywhere: day one is the first twenty-four hours after it — a table read anywhere cannot follow one horizon. The line at the top of the page counts the traditional way, from moonrise where you are, which can be up to a day apart. How the lunar day is counted
